Slut Brownies: The Food of Materialize
I still remember the day I had my first Slut Brownies (who wouldn't?). The day rolled in, like any other, but this day marked a special occasion. It was a girls birthday and in celebration she was passing out treats from a bag. Enjoyed by the break in everyday activity, and enticed by hunger, I eagerly approached the girl and acquired the treat she was handing out. As I bit into, what I thought was a brownie, I was hit in quite the surprise. I got hit by a Lethal combination of a soft gooey sensation of cookie dough, followed up by the hard crunch of a Oreo, a finally finishes off with a warm and sweet taste of a brownie. As I looked down at the product that I just consumed, I instinctively asked for the name. At that moment I knew that the end was near, with this product I would be able to conjure the love of friends, the envy of every cook, and the death of my relative health.
As Massimo Montanari declares in his article, Food and Culture, Food is a reflection upon ones culture. Born in a culture that immortalize those who have abundance and scrutinizes those who do not have enough, it is no surprise that Slut Brownies come to mind. The materialistic society that we find ourselves in tells us that we can find all we need in material objects, if that be a new entertainment device, or a new mode for transportation, or even a new experience in food. This philosophy tells us that not only should we get the best of everything, but we CAN get the best of everything. That is what the Slut Brownie accomplishes, the best of all three, it's like the Miami Heat of food: unfair, too powerful, and at times unstoppable.
The History of Slut brownies is largely unknown, but considering Oreo is a key ingredient, I don't think I would be too hard to say it must be after 1912 (the year Oreo was introduced to the market). If I would have to guess it must have started sometime in the late 90's early 20's, considering that my parents never heard of it until I told them. In conclusion, even thought Slut Brownies seem, to me, to be a recent and powerful new food. I believe that It has come up by the culture in which we live, and because of that culture it is thriving. Someday, the big three might break up and it would be the end of the Slut brownies, and their grip on the food world.
